Magic: The Gathering's 'Reality Fracture' Preorders Go Live – Jace Beleren's Dark Turn Shakes the Multiverse

By ✦ min read

Preorders are now live for Magic: The Gathering's Reality Fracture set, the penultimate mainline release of 2026 before the Star Trek crossover arrives in November. The set launches October 2 and marks a dramatic turning point in the game's story: longtime hero Jace Beleren embraces a villainous role, creating a twisted alternate reality called the Echoverse.

“The shift of Jace from hero to villain is a seismic event in Magic's storyline,” said game analyst Sarah K. Thompson. “The Echoverse mechanic allows for creative reinterpretations of beloved characters, which will shake up both casual and competitive play.”

Players can secure new Commander decks, Play Booster boxes, and other products now at major retailers including Amazon and Best Buy. See the full lineup below.

Background

Reality Fracture is the culmination of the in-universe story arc that began with Phyrexia: All Will Be One. Jace Beleren, once a noble Planeswalker, now occupies a morally ambiguous role, using his powers to fracture reality itself.

The Echoverse functions as a “What If?” scenario, where iconic characters, locations, and cards are altered. For example, popular characters like Chandra Nalaar will have their colors swapped to their opposite—changing her from a red mage to a blue mage. While story details remain scarce, fans can anticipate a major showdown among Planeswalkers by the set’s conclusion.

Reality Fracture is the second-to-last mainline set of 2026, followed by the highly anticipated Star Trek crossover in November.

What This Means

This set introduces game-changing mechanics that flip color identities and reimagine core characters. For competitive players, the altered abilities could create new deck-building opportunities. Collectors, meanwhile, should expect high demand for alternate-art cards and the four-color Jace Commander deck.

“We’ve seen unprecedented interest in the Reality Fracture Commander deck,” a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson confirmed. “Fans are eager to get their hands on the four-color Jace deck.” Preorders are already moving quickly, and availability may be limited at launch.

Additionally, October 2 will also see the release of five Foundations Commander decks, one for each color of mana. These are designed to be beginner-friendly and are available for $30 each at Amazon.
